My 7th grade daughter absolutely loves this whole series and so do I! She is homeschooled and learns easily but gets bogged down sometimes by curricula and regular textbooks. These study guides have been a great way for her to learn the important information and retain it. We currently use the entire series as her "spine" for learning after using a plethora of curricula choices (online, classical, unit studies, you name it) in the past. She reads the chapter as an intro, then we research in other sources as needed (sometimes completing additional projects as well) and then she completes the quiz at the end of the chapter. We use the Math book along with ALEKS online math but the other books are a great scope & sequence for middle school students along with a few other supplemental materials. Her standardized test scores have increased drastically since we bought these books last fall, yet she feels like she's in control of her education and able to dive in deeper to the subjects as she wants/needs as part of our interest driven educational philosophy.
This a great book! It's fun and visually appealing! It's set up to make navigation easy and it's packed full of wonderfully explained information. I homeschool my children and my middle schooler uses this book daily to clarify information or to look up something he doesn't know. I find that it's very well made and I think it will last a long time even with daily use. I own one other book in this series and so far they are all great!
These book series are great. I bought math, history and science versions of these books. All of them do a wonderful job of conveying complex subjects in easy to digest chunks.5 stars if the quiz portions are irrelevant to you.- 1 star for quiz answers on the page directly behind the questions for each section or chapterI am using them for homeschooling my child. I wanted to use their questions as quizzes, but my kid can easily flip the page over to find the answer. This is unfortunate as it makes it difficult to determine whether or not my child understood the chapter based on the chapter questions. I would of much preferred all of the answers be in the back of the book, possibly even perforated so I can tear them off if I so wish.Aside from this issue, it's an excellent book. If this is not a concern for you, consider it a 5 star. I am still going to use them as a supplement to my child's education, but for our needs and considering the book is geared for high school and middle school students who tend to cut corners, I am knocking off one point. Would love future iterations to put all the answers in the index :)
This book is good for any age for as young as 9 to an adult am teaching my son and am learning myself. It is a good guide to follow to teach even what you yourself don't fully comprehend. This book was written so well that you will come to learn the lessons super quick and it is also very fun!
Finally get to add this book to my collection of Big Fat Notebooks! However, I soon noticed that this book is not nearly as helpful as it could be. The grammar section is too brief. While I do know that the book is supposed to cover all branches of ELA, I found the grammar part (only the first section), to be far too simple/basic. It is impossible to explain grammar to children in a mere 80 pages.I would highly recommend purchasing a second book on grammar from Brain Quest for more practice.
I would have given this book a five star as my 7th grade ELA students love it, many asked their parents to purchase it, but the book is missing two things. The first is information about symbolism which is a difficult topic to teach and the format of this book would have really helped the student learn it. I would have given a four star rating on this alone but it is also missing the index, which makes it difficult for students to find information easily. I purchased the same book with the index from Barnes and Noble for a reduced price with a 10% off coupon and 20% teacher discount. I will update my review if the replacement set I am receiving on Saturday has the index. The math teacher wants the math version - if it has an index.

Great book. Attractive enough to make you want to pick it up and read it. The graphics are colorful, the font is clear, and the highlights and titles are in bold print. Chapters are color coded. Check Your Knowledge questions and answer page included. Contents list all the units and it's coverage. What makes this book stand out from all the others is that it includes all the important information broken down in easy to understand text and simple to read maps. It's all you need to know and that's it. There are a total of 5 subjects in this series: they include Math, Science, English Language Arts, World History, American History in the series and we have all of them. This is definitely worth the investment. Parents will find this book and series simple to explain to your child and/or read with them. Nothing complicated. Buy this book and the others in the series. I highly recommend it.
