An estimated 45 million adults in the U.S. lack a credit score at time when credit invisibility can reduce one’s ability to rent a home, find employment, or secure a mortgage or loan. As a result, individuals without credit—who are disproportionately African American and Latino—often lead separate and unequal financial lives. Yet, as sociologists and public policy experts Frederick Wherry, Kristin Seefeldt, and Anthony Alvarez argue, many people who are not recognized within the financial system engage in behaviors that indicate their credit worthiness. How might institutions acknowledge these practices and help these people emerge from the financial shadows? In Credit Where It’s Due, the authors evaluate an innovative model of credit-building and advocate for a new understanding of financial citizenship, or participation in a financial system that fosters social belonging, dignity, and respect.   Wherry, Seefeldt, and Alvarez tell the story of the Mission Asset Fund, a San Francisco-based organization that assists mostly low- and moderate-income people of color with building credit. The Mission Asset Fund facilitates zero-interest lending circles, which have been practiced by generations of immigrants, but have gone largely unrecognized by mainstream financial institutions. Participants decide how the circles are run and how they will use their loans, and the organization reports their clients’ lending activity to credit bureaus. As the authors show, this system not only helps clients build credit, but also allows them to manage debt with dignity, have some say in the creation of financial products, and reaffirm their sense of social membership. The authors delve into the history of racial wealth inequality in the U.S. to show that for many black and Latino households, credit invisibility is not simply a matter of individual choices or inadequate financial education. Rather, financial marginalization is the result of historical policies that enabled predatory lending, discriminatory banking and housing practices, and the rollback of regulatory protections for first-time homeowners.   To rectify these inequalities, the authors propose common sense regulations to protect consumers from abuse alongside new initiatives that provide seed capital for every child, create affordable short-term loans, and ensure that financial institutions treat low- and moderate-income clients with equal respect. By situating the successes of the Mission Asset Fund in the larger history of credit and debt, Credit Where It’s Due shows how to prioritize financial citizenship for all.

I took my test this morning and passed it !!. This book is ok, but should not be used alone. You will NOT have access to all the training videos for Network+ TotalSims(I did not subcribe). Which to me was a let down.I used CBT Nuggets, CertMaster, and Professor Messer videos to supplement my learning process.

Great book I got the kindle version. I took the Network+ test yesterday first time after studying about 4.5 months. Thanks God I passed it.My advise to everyone to pass network+;-Read the book.-Watch the videos(Mike Meyers& Professor Messer).-Memorize the acronyms and everything in exam objectives.-have some hands on experience or simulations.-If you are not confident to pass at the first time get free retake option($100 more)

This was the only book I used for my Network+ exam. I can say that it covered every objective expected on the test. I did not use the CD included with the book. I also paired the book with Professor Messer notes and videos for further explanations on concepts that I needed additional information on. I passed the test on my first try. I studied for about three weeks and probably read this book four times.

This book helped me pass the N+ 006 . The book covers all the objectives pretty well. I read the book twice and took the practice exams. I also usedProfessor Messer videos also.

It is a good book if your starting from the ground up. I have 25 years of IT experience and was just trying to get some certs back on my resume. I quickly got tired of combing through this book looking for the bits I didn't know and got a different book with less fluff and more pointed details. However, I enjoyed reading it. It was well written and covered most of the material. But not all so you will still need to pull from several other resources. I passed on the first try but it was a rather difficult test due to the vast amount of material covered.

I thoroughly enjoy the text transcribed in this textbook. I do have a few concerns/statements though. I would not use this alone, as other readers have stated, to pass the Network + exam. I would highly recommend Wikipedia along with hours of taking the multitude of free practice tests on line in order to prepare yourself more for the exam. I would highly prescribe other materials along with this in order to ensure the success of the exam. Google is your friend when it comes to this stuff, along with examcompass, crucialexams, and there are few more. You can also pay to get some of the VCE practice exams that simulate the Network + exam environment - allows for interactive scenarios etc.Word of warning : The CD included with this book is absolute garbage. It's all just basically trying to get you to buy more stuff. The free video included is about 2mins long.

Mike Meyers has a way of delivering the content in a conversational style that keeps you reading. This made it easy to get through the material. The book even divides the book into history and test specific which I appreciated because you can skip to what's pertinent. Now, where the book fell short is how they advertise all of these supplemental features like practice tests. It's a farce... They are just samples to get you to buy his products from his company. The files are not accessible on mobile devices. The book is a good companion to the Lynda.com Network+ course.

This is an excellent book, but not anywhere near what's needed to pass the Network+ test. I was able to answer all the chapter questions and practice questions on the included cd easily, but still had trouble with the test. I memorized so many standards, protocols, and details and the test was all troubleshooting and long scenarios that are only a small part of this book. It's not primarily fact based like the A+ test. Additional modules have to be purchased from Meyers site or from Comptia to get the practice and understanding that's needed.

This version of this book should not be on the list of greatiest religious books!Initially i was excited to find this text. Upon purchasing the book i discovered, from the authors introductory essays, an obvious lack of belief(even a hint of distaste) in the religion itself expressed by the author. Imagine an abject islamic scholar translating the torah. I would not trust the translations for the lack of heart behind the work. Try other more rare translations, perhaps The Holy Granth: Sri Guru Granth Sahib Vol. 1 thru 4 by ~ Kartar Singh DuggalThank you

The Adi Granth is the Holy Book of the Sikhs. I must admit, it is a beautiful piece of poetry. I am a Christian and while I do not believe these scriptures are divinely inspired, they are inspired through a very beautiful form of creativity. I do appreciate it.

This is is not accepted as true translation by all the Sikh Scholars, any one who wants to read Granth Sahib in English should refer to the translation by Michael MacAuliffe, which is the most accurate translation ever attempted and took close to a decade to translate. This was also fully reviewed by Giani Pratap Singh and others. Other accepted translation by Indian Authors is also available (On Siknet, http://www.sikhnet.com/GuruTranslation and SikhBookClub, http://sikhbookclub.com/books/guru-granth-sahib-steek-english/1656/2903) Ernest Trump's attempt was considered the most damaging translation by often misinterpretation of real meaning as mentioned by others at this forum. I am a Sikh, and, as noted by others, this is a terrible translation of our holy scripture. I was torn between giving this a rating of 1 because of the terrible translation, or a 5 for it being at least somewhat of a representation of our holy scripture. I eventually decided to give it a 1 because lisa jones gave it a 5 for the same reason I would have, and because this is such a bad translation that I'm not so sure it is a good representation of our Sikh Philosophy, as I will describe. This traslation was done by a man, Trumpp, who, historically, had an unfavorable view of Sikhs. His goal, as noted in various historical references, was to engender the idea that Sikhism is just another sect of Hinduism and the Guru Granth is just another Hindu scripture. This is quite wrong so I would like to give you an example of how bad the translation is, and how Trumpp was trying to achieve his goal. To do so, you need go no further than the very first two words on the very first page.The Sikh scripture starts with the words "Ek Oankar." In this edition, Trumpp translates this as "Om." However, this is only one third of the complete translation. Here is how Ek Oankar should be translated: Ek is literally the numeral 1, ie One God. This is the most important belief in Sikhism, and what makes it drastically different than Hinduism's polytheism. The second word, "Oankar," can also be transliterated as "Omkar." To translate this word you need to break it down into its two parts; "Om" and "kar." The first part; Om has three syllables A-U-M. In Hindu philosophy each of these syllables represents one of the Hindu manifestations of God; Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu. The Second part; "kar" is the verb "To Do/Make." So Oankar means, in a very rough translation, "To make Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu." Now, when combined with the first word we get, also a rough translation: "The One that Made Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu." This is usually translated as "One Creator." Not quite Hindu is it? Here, Guru Nanak was emphasizing his belief in a truly monothseistic philosophy of meditating on the One that transcends all creation, and all human inventions of applying different faces (i.e. Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu) to understand the One God. If Trumpp can't even translate the first two words correctly then you know he got a lot of other things wrong as well. If you are interested in eastern philosophy then of course I recommend the Guru Granth, I am a Sikh after all. But, PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS TRANSLATION!!!!!!!!!! There are much better translations out there. Amazon, why are you still carrying this one? Free speech I suppose;)Below is a better translation of the Mool Mantra, the first few lines in the Guru Granth. This book is well laid out. It is easy to find the remedy I am looking for and it covers so many animals not just dogs and cats. I love the information for birds. My Chihuahua has always been afraid of thunder and would pace or hide under my desk Just before the arrival of a storm I gave him a few doses of Aspen (two drops in tablespoon water by dropper into his mouth),now he no longer is afraid, he knows there is a storm but that's it. I gave him aspen again after a long period of no storms just to reinforce the response. He is still calm and relaxed during storms.

Very useful book to have in your library if you are looking to help your animals naturally. Bach flower remedies are a tried and proven method to aid with overall well being.
