As I am the first one to review this book, I will start by saying I am a complete rugby novice, but have a fair amount of experience and knowledge in the gym and weight room. When I received the book, I immediately recognized it is full of information you could find in the top 5 articles in a Google search for "rugby workout." While this may be helpful for someone completely new to fitness, I don't feel like anyone looking for any real conditioning information will find it here. I will hand it to the author, he lists a step-by-step how-to for each exercise, but it just felt like it was just adding to the page count, not helping anyone.The reader is expected to do some heavy footwork by way of page turning back and forth to create a workout log or tracker should they desire. The author should have created a set of tables that simply broke down each workout day and was easier to follow. The rep/set scheme is laid out, but again in paragraph form and would require a fair amount of work before anyone hits the gym. I'm not opposed to this, but for a $20 book that doesn't even include page numbers, I expected more.The nutrition section, which takes up roughly 75% of the pages, is more of a Betty Crocker cookbook focusing on high-protein meals and desserts. I didn't see much of a nutrition plan per se, and no mention of nutrition basics like calorie/macro counting is found.I was hesitant to even order this book, mainly because it had no reviews and very little information could be found online about the author. I did find that he has written many books such as this, including a series of "Creating the Ultimate..." where he creates the ultimate wrestler, volleyball player, spartan racer, cheerleader, etc. He is listed as a professional athlete and coach on his sports books, a certified meditation instructor on books about meditation and mental toughness, and a certified sports nutritionist on his nutrition focused books. While I don't discredit his certifications and experience, being a professional athlete in one or even a few sports does not give you enough knowledge to write guides on 15+ sports.Overall, I do not think I would recommend this book for anyone, regardless of their situation. If it were a $5-$8 kindle ebook, maybe, but the $20 paperback that is offered is a waste. I will be returning this for my money back, and looking elsewhere for advice on actual conditioning for rugby, not step-by-step guides on how to do a dumbbell side-bend.
This book has 5 chapters.Chapter 1 is literally 2 pages - one page is the calendar for a "normal" workout schedule, and the other page is for the "intense" workout schedule. They're the exact same calendar!Chapter 2 covers the exercises to do and describes how to perform them. This is around 40 pages, but has no diagrams or pictures so it's not particularly useful.The last 3 chapters covers recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is the bulk of the pages in the book. I would estimate 80% of the pages are recipes.There is nothing volleyball specific in the program. It doesn't provide any particular attention to the areas that are important for volleyball, it's a general workout book and you can find better ones for the money.On the other hand if you want a recipe book that happens to provide some workout advice, spend your money here.
Never been so disappointed after receveing a book ever. This is more a recipe cook book than a book about training (3/4 of the book). I if you are interested in eating a lot of dessert there is a whole chapter on that. This book has no illustration or pictures of the exercises described. I found no interesting exercises. Seems like copy paste from the 80's. Sorry.
