About the Author
ELLEN MORRIS BISHOP is the author of numerous books on geology and the outdoors, including Hiking Oregon's Geology. Dogs have accompanied her on virtually all the hikes she took preparing Hiking Oregon's Geology and doing geology field work. Her present dog, Meesha, is a certified Animal Assisted Therapy dog, providing canine companionship to Alzheimers patients, nursing home patients, and children in Dorenbecher Children's Hospital, Portland. Meesha also has her Basic Obedience Certificate and Basic Agility Certificate, and is a Dove Lewis Clinic blood donor dog. Ellen Bishop's previous work with dogs includes working with stock dogs to work cattle and sheep, and training a Newfoundland to be a certified Water Rescue Dog.

How exciting to find a book with exactly all the information we need to fulfill our adventures upon moving to Oregon!We could hardly wait to receive this book in the mail and get started planning our hikes, and the book provided us with just that!!! It has all sorts of extra info on First Aid and things to be cautious of, which I appreciate.Also pay close attention to the SEASONS it recommends you hike the trail in. We went in the spring and the book said "best in Summer/Fall", the trail was covered by large areas of water- so that was our own fault. It was still a BEAUTIFUL hike! The book could use some updating on changes to the areas (the trail-heads) and how to find them (Directions). But we just use our GPS, So between the book and our GPS we have not had too much trouble finding the trail-heads. We are new to the area, so everything is an adventure! Most importantly my dogs, who are like my children, are the reason I purchased this book. I wanted to have a resource to be able to enjoy our walks together. I would not take them ANYWHERE that would put them or others in danger and so far, each trail we have gone to, we have been able to let our dogs off leash (they are on voice command) and it has been so much fun to explore this beautiful state together!
Your dog needs a lot of exercise, but many parks and trails in Oregon are closed to dogs. What are you going to do? This book has some answers. Find one hike for your dog that you didn't already know about and the book is already worth the price.
They're the best around, nothing's ever gonna bring them down.
