I bought both the lonely planet Reykjavik pocket guide and full Iceland book.Overall I'd say the Reykjavik pocket guide was a better buy. It had enough info about Reykjavik, the Golden Circle, Reykjanes peninsula, South Coast, and other surrounding areas that it was all we really needed for our 6 day trip to the city (well.. this guide along with tripadvisor and google maps, of course!). While the "Iceland" guide was larger and had more interesting cultural anecdotes, it was also heavier to carry and had a lot of useless info listing accommodation ad restaurants that might be outdated (and you can always use Tripadvisor for these things... who picks a hotel out of a guide book anyway?!). Go with this one.Note: I'm subtracting one star because I wish it had more maps (the Iceland guide didn't have enough maps either). Driving around Iceland was not as easy as we had hoped and we were lost a few times - luckily all the cars are hybrids and one tank of gas got us 790km (almost 500 miles). If this guide had more detailed locations of its attractions that would have been nice.

This was the best guide to take with to Iceland. It was small and easy to use. Reykjavik is not a large town and there are maps in every hotel the city has. Plus the locals all speak English - so you are never without assistance. Honestly, this was the best guide for taking with as it was light and compact and had all the information that I needed during my trip. The exhaustive list of accommodations in other books are completely useless once you are there. And a hint for Iceland - those accommodations should be booked ahead of time.

I will never travel without a Lonely Planet Pocket book. The size is great for carrying in your purse to consult for quick food & activity suggestions. So many of the food recommendations were excellent and affordable! I used the accommodations recommendations to book hostels & hotels before we traveled. I particularly LOVE the "Best of" selections. The attached maps also were so helpful. This book really made travel so easy and enjoyable.

This little book was a great help giving us the top things to do around Reykjavik, Snæfellsnes and Reykjanes Peninsulas - and everything in between! There are maps of each peninsula that we drove around and showed what not to miss. - not just descriptions. I really like the small size because it fit right into my purse! It gets right to the point of explaining key information about attractions and doesn't go into tons of tiny details and isn't wordy like the larger guides.

The Lonely Planet Pocket Reykjavik was a valuable source of information for us on our trip. I supplemented the information in the book with reviews on Trip Advisor and carried this book throughout Reykjavik. Following its advice we visited interesting sites, ate at good restaurants, and took advantage of the useful advice. I carried the book throughout the trip.

This little book is chocked full of information and it's laid out in a way that's very easy to read and follow. Very colorful as well. We haven't been on our trip yet so I can't speak it its accuracy but so far we love it. if your sticking to Reykjavik then this little guy is a handy tool!

Very brief and selective information, some of it of little interest to general traveler. Better info from the city website.

Even though you can find everything online now, this guide was exceptional. And easy to bring along anywhere I went in Iceland.

It offers blow-by-blow concise accounts of the eight battles, and interprets them in the context of the times -- or rather, takes seriously what contemporary leaders claimed were their intentions and how they worked out their strategies..... the book advances larger cultural and religious arguments"..."he has selected four exemplary Western defeats (the fall of Constantinople, Hattin, Manzikert, and Yarmuk) balanced by four victories (second defense of Constantinople, La Naas de Tolosa, Tours, and Vienna). ...Ibrahim's evidence reveals certain recurring themes about the interaction between Islam and the West...."First, in most cases Islamic armies saw themselves as expansionary and messianic.... It could easily be argued that the victories at Tours and Vienna saved Western Civilization from currently being Islamic.Mr. Ibrahim goes into some unsettling detail about the horrible and ghastly tortures the Turks and other Muhammadans used against Christendom. Here are some excerpts:Did you know that skinning alive was a popular method of execution that was used on the commander of Famagusta in Cyprus in 1571 and the Serbian Orthodox bishop?.Did you know the army that invaded Europe during the siege of Vienna in 1683 numbered 300,000?. This was an incredible army to muster in the late 17th c.That blonde-haired and blue-eyed women were the most valued prize in the Arab slave markets, and Viking raids were elicited by this demand?.That in 1785, the Mahometan Barbary pirates captured two American ships, the Dauphin and Maria, and enslaved and paraded the crew through the streets?.That the Muslims knew about the New World since the 1500's and had "pious hopes that it would, in due course, be illuminated by Islam and added to the Ottoman realm"?The book also has 8-pages of pictures, photos, and notes in the center as an added bonus.I could go on and on with the fascinating history in this book. It is difficult to put down. Get this book and you will not be disappointed.For those with libraries on Islam and its true history, Robert Spencer's latest very popular work and Paul Fregosi's oldie but goodie "Jihad in the West" are volumes that complement Mr. Ibrahim's latest book, which I would give 6 stars if I could.

Killing, torture, raping, etc. are the result of Islam's following the Koran's command to kill or oppress the infidels.Read it and open your eyes. Then read "The History of Jihad" by Robert Spencer to fill in the gaps.

Alarmingly apposite and engaging. Raymond Ibrahim hits the proverbial nail on the head with this strikingly important work. His writing style is palatable and ripe for mass consumption. I’d strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in understanding Christian-Islamic relations throughout history.Too many in the West remain perilously ignorant about true Islamic principles such as taqiyya, law of abrogation, etc. I’d recommend this book to anyone high school age older. If I could give it a six-star rating I would.
