I ordered this book for the Theories and Methods of Counseling course last semester. I was of course dreading the intense reading load that my Professor had in store for us, but I was surprised at how concise and organized this text is. Every chapter is broken down in relatively the same manner, and I loved how it broke down each major theory (such as humanistic, behavioral, psychoanalytic, etc.) into sub-divisions and founders/co-founders. As embarrassing as it is to admit that up until last semester, I kind of BS-ed knowing theories and the people involved with those theories, this text really helped me remember who did what, who founded what, who contributed to this and that. I would definitely recommend this text to anyone who needs a more structured, laid out format when it comes to this kind of material.The book did NOT come with the CD, but I believe on one of the first pages there is a website to go to that has the information to view the CD online. Luckily my professor let it slide when he realized 99% of the class did not get the CD.

Great price - no problems with the book. The only difference between this and my classmates books was mine was in black and white, the color was green instead of that pink-ish color and it was paperback ---- oh - and like 80 bucks cheaper!

I feel that the description noted is misleading.There is information given about the DVD "The Case Of Stan" and I feel that the purchaser of the book is lead to believe that the DVD is included with the book. I feel that the descripion SHOULD CLEARLY STATE DVD IS NOT INCLUDED WITH BOOK, however is available as an ADDITIONAL PURCHASE.I spent close to $60.00 to buy a new book so that I would be assurred to receive the DVD with it. This was a waste of money, because know I know that the DVD is not included and I could have purchased a used book for less than half the price. :(I am suprised that Amazon has not corrected this. This is a problem because as several other reviewers have said that they also thought that the DVD was included as well. BE AWARE THE DVD DOES NOT COME WITH THE BOOK!!!!!

I actually am enjoying this book. The case study of Stan has been so helpful to follow along and see various techniques used. I did find it distracting and irritating for the author to constantly suggest skipping around and reading later chapter's before earlier ones. Seems they should have simply organized it in a way that didnt require skipping around.

i'm studying for a master's in counseling degree. i won't keep all my books, but i will hold on to this one. if you simply MUST have the "case of stan" DVD, then i'm afraid you'll have to look for that package specifically, and purchase it new. my professor stressed we needed to buy dvd. however, you can find a good portion of the stan role plays on youtube. (btw, the new one with dvd is about $195). i didn't want to pay that much, so went with this one. and it has done the job just fine. in the book, at the end of the chapters, there is even a discussion of dr. corey's sessions with stan (a recap of what was on the dvd). i have had no problem. only two weeks remain in the course and i have a high "a" average.

I still have this particular textbook from my program because this one was by far the most helpful. It's broken down into several chapters that are concise, helpful and easy to read. The examples are AMAZING, and in the back of the book, it has a great summary of each theory, that I think really helped me ace my tests.

This book is great. It arrived fast and it is written in a way that it is easy to stay focused and engaged in. The way the author organized this book is brilliant, all in order of 11 different types of theories. I highly recommend this book.

As usual, Cengage have overpriced their mediocre books. To make it worse, as someone has already mentioned, the Kindle editions comes with neither a product key or access code so watching the recommended videos is not possible. In my case, I had no choice but to buy the Kindle edition. I live in the Middle East in a country that is very restrictive of the materials it allows in. Psychology and religion are two of the most banned materials. Rather than take a chance by ordering the print edition hoping it would get past the censors, it's easier to buy the electronic edition which can be downloaded over a VPN connection. Having access to the video and other materials available with the product code and/or access key might have made this experience better.

My dad took two of my bff's and I to Idlewild on opening week! I STILL HAVE PHOTOS OF US in front of that B-52! There were all kinds of military aircraft lined up for the public to view.Real "Hands on". I even have the tickets that mayor O'Dwyer sent with a letter of invitation to us school kids.I still have the original book and gold coin they gave out.The biggest shock for me was the "Mens room"----- a HUGE DEEP open pit!:)) This book is a MUST HAVE to remind me of that visit!Thanks!

I've personally been to JFK Airport in New York four times in the past. I went to Jet Blue's Terminal 5 when I arrived there from CA and caught a connecting flight to Vermont. Also, on the way back from Burlington to NY and the NY to CA connecting flight. I also have been in the Pan-Am terminal in 1990 on my flights to and from Zurich, Switzerland. Some of the interesting information that the book mentions is as follows: What is known as JFK Airport came into being in the mid 1940s after the realization that LaGuardia Airport was inadequate. JFK Airport was known as NY International Airport-Idlewild Field. The airport was renamed John F. Kennedy Airport in Dec. 1963. It has grown to cover 5,000 acres which is approximately one-third the size of Manhattan Island. International travel at that airport accounted for 17% of all United States travelers going overseas. It now handles an average of about 50,000 international travelers each day. The Pan-American Airways (Pan-Am) terminal 3 went to Delta after Pan-Am's financial collapse in the early 1990s. Terminal 4 became the new international terminal. In Terminal 5, Jet Blue incorporated the TWA Flight Center. At the time that the book was written, there was a helicopter service flying between Downtown Manhattan and the Airport at the price of $159 each way.

At the beginning of the Jet Age of commercial aircraft travel in the last years of the 1950's, the then Idlewild airport in New York City was poised as the ideal departure airport for the multitudes of new air passengers making their way to many European destinations. A six to eight hour flight to many of the European capitals was an easy trek. And of course it also served the millions of residents of the New York City area and it's immediate environs. Renamed JFK sometime after the death of President Kennedy in November 1963 it's growth as an international departure point had ballooned. In the Summer of 1968 my Mother, my Aunt and I made our way through JFK for our emotional trip to the "Old Country", Norway, to meet our Norwegian family from whom our parents and grandparents had said good bye in the late 1800's. We were the first of our immediate family to do so. We had flown from Dallas nonstop on American Airlines and were to continue on to Oslo nonstop on a Pan American flight that continued on to Helsinki. We experienced the new Pan American Worldport and our Pan Am B707-321 that day was N717PA Clipper Fleetwing, I have a picture of that aircraft. The July of 1968 departure delays at JFK had made national news and were shown in a color picture on a cover page of Life Magazine that month. We experienced a more than one hour taxi and holding time that evening before take off and I can still remember the smell of the kerosene as there must have been twenty or more aircraft in line waiting for take off clearance and the aircraft air conditioning systems could not avoid sucking in some of those fumes. After an especially rewarding trip and visit with our Norwegian relatives we returned from Oslo on a DC9 via Copenhagen on SAS, also on to JFK on SAS on one of their new DC8-62's through the International Arrivals Terminal. Thereupon making our way to the Braniff Airways terminal at JFK, we continued on to Dallas on a Braniff B727-100 with an intermediate stop at the new Dulles Airport in Virginia outside Washington, D.C. Subsequently during the years of my business career and some holiday travel I made many additional flights through JFK, but, none came with the same emotion and thrill as that first one on the way to Norway! This book is a special reminder to me of some of my personal family history.

This book is also VERY wonderful, informative, and relative to creating, implementing, and reflecting on lesson plans. I’m keeping this textbook to use beyond my years of graduating college for my future classroom! Easy to read and full of great ideas and information.

Critical thinking is crucial if you want to improve the quality of your decisions. There is no such thing as a decision that requires absolutely no critical thinking. Critical thinking is crucial for optimal social interaction. I read useful information in this book.

If you are reading this then i can assume you are just like me and can do anything to think even deeper to it's critical position. I am a fan of critical thinking and some would say i am obsessed with it. But i am not i enjoy it and i usually comes with a suitable conclusion about anything where most of the others just gave up.I have read a lot of books to make it organized and stay on focus on specific matter when at some place i messed up. Book like this really helps me on that and this book definitely the best of my list. It explained the idea of critical thinking nicely and yes even i as a critical thinker enjoy to think about the author's writing style and what he wanted to said inside the book. The strategies and instructions he provides have already working for me. I think they would bring some real change to your way of seeing things. All the best.

Good book with good points. I like the simplicity of the concept,it’s a little conceptual but won’t affect to get to the real point. I would recommend to the people start to realize some self control issue and want to put some simple plan to work on it. It’s five star as the author put thoughts together and presented in a very decent way, it gets to the point.

This is the best book to learn and understand about critical thinking style to exploring and solving problems. Because of this, I find a positive impact on different areas of my life. The book is a step by step well-written guide so everything is easy to understand thanks.
