Fantastic book!!! This is one of those rare technology books that actually presents the material clearly and completely. The book sets a great base of knowledge, starting with installing the IDE, configuring it to suit your needs and then walking through all of the various features and tools. Next comes the deep dive into the critical components of the IDE and simulation tools - how to configure virtual test devices, how to configure physical test devices, etc. After that foundation is laid out the author then begins the discussion of how to use all of those tools to actually start building an app. Everything from the architecture of Android OS to composing visual elements of your UI to services, content providors and everything in between - it's all here. If you need a good foundation for Android development I'll leave you with 3 simple words. GET THIS BOOK! You won't be disappointed.

Too many technical books clinically lay out the facts,showing absolutely no empathy for a beginning reader. "To do X, just put the YYY into ZZZ mode" with no specifics about exactly HOW to get there or do that. A good measure of a beginner's book is how many times you need to resort to Google to figure out how to actually do what the author says or understand why your screen doesn't look like his example figure.This book is different. A book this complete (700 pages) AND FRIENDLY is extremely rare. Instead of rifling through my 10+ Android development hoping to solve a particular problem, I return to this one. I've realized that instead of looking for pasted-in solutions, it is worth the time to read this book in the carefully paced, logically presented fashion the author intended. He devotes multiple chapters to each topic, building on the previous one, and finishing with a walk-through tutorial. All technical books should be this good.

I am currently working through this book. I am absolutely enthralled with it. I have read MANY books that claim to 'teach' you programming - Java, MySQL, Python...all of them discuss a lot of theory and have little to no working project examples to give you an idea of what's going on and how to correctly implement the code. I had a problem getting my project from chapter 27 to work. I email the staff at ebookfrenzy.com, and they got back to me within the hour, asked for my code and found my problem. All of this within the same business day - FREE OF CHARGE. They were prompt, professional, and friendly. It's nice to know there's built-in product support with this group. I've emailed authors at their contact emails of the aforementioned books, only to receive crickets in return...This book is giving me the confidence I need to believe I can develop Android apps on my own. I highly recommend this book!!UPDATE : Sorry the update is late...I was able to complete my Mobile Application Development course, and produce a viable, working app to fulfill my graduation requirements. I couldn't have graduated without this book!! A must read for any beginning Android developer.

Started trying to read this ebook on kindle via pc with high res graphics card and find it very difficult to read the menu examples in the book. kindle reader doesn't allow one to enlarge the font so the text gets bigger but the graphics stay the same size. So ot the graphics are presented in a larger font so they are readable but many are not. this may not be a problem for a younger reader. I just tried it on my galaxy 9+ and the graphics are expandable but not so one my PC. running win10 with a NVIDIA graphics card. the book would have been a better purchase.

I was awarded a scholarship from Google with Udacity for Android Development. I never ever coded at times i felt lost this book cleared it up for me. It filled the gaps I was missing, it helped me passed the course now I am awaiting to get the second scholarship. I can't wait because I know I wil be ahead since I am already doing the sample projects that you can download very helpful. Beginners key thing to learn is debugging its not fun sitting for hours just to find out you missed something so simple. Once I'm fluent i will move on to Kotlin the author also covers as well which is google new coding language for Android.

I thoroughly enjoyed this very well researched, exceptional book on the history of Christian contemplation/meditation and it's relevancy for individuals seeking a deeper interior relationship with God. There is much to learn from reading this book with pages and pages of excellent resources for continued study. Daniel Coleman finds just the right intersection between the Quaker faith, Buddhism and Christian mysticism. I would highly recommend this book to anyone in the Centering Prayer community.

Very informative and engaging work. Coleman provides great introductions to Christian meditation and contemplative practices, as well as Buddhism & process theology. I think this is an ideal primer/jumping off point to go deeper into any of these disciplines, and to have a solid framework from which a more robust praxis can be built.

There is something happening here. What it is ain't exactly clear; but this book beautifully pulls together three huge trends in spiritual thought that are converging in the context of an emerging 'spiritually independent' contingent who recognize the deep central importance to human existence of the 'absolute truth' of meaning and value, as distinct from the 'relative truth' of fact that science and logic brings into human awareness. While the author explores these trends--(1) the fundamental move among the spiritually thoughtful into the mystical thought at the core of all of the world's faith traditions, (2) the practical value of meditative practice and mindfulness in the quieting of the incessant 'noise' of the temporally flowing 'monkey mind', and (3) the emergence of process/relational philosophy (for example, in the systematic 'philosophy of organism' developed by Alfred North Whitehead and/or in the 'pragmaticism' of Charles Sanders Peirce) as a new paradigm that effectively supersedes the nominalism of Cartesian/Newtonian modernism, recognizing relation as primordial, as opposed to material substance--what emerges is the foundation for a new understanding that recognizes the deep interconnectedness and interdependence of all who are Earthbound, from the prion to the human. Read in conjunction with books like Ken Wilber's 'The Religion of Tomorrow,' Rami Shapiro's 'Perennial Wisdom for the Spiritually Independent', and even Aubrey Glazer's 'Tangle of Matter and Ghost' (a spiritual exploration of the 'post-secular' songbook of Leonard Cohen), among others, one can find a path to what Ken Wilber calls an emerging 'integral vision', a 'Fourth Turning' in the Buddhist tradition, that indeed takes the consciousness and culture of the human species beyond the divisive particularity of ethnocentrism, and toward a transformative integral faith that is 'posthuman' and truly inclusive and universal. It is the only way that can possibly save us as a species from continuing to pursue our current modern path that appears to be careening toward complete annihilation of the natural world as we know it, the world that gave rise to us and upon which we are an integral and completely dependent element.

Martin S. Silberberg received his B.S. in chemistry from the City University of New York in 1966 and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Oklahoma, in 1971. He then accepted a research position at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he studied the chemical nature of neurotransmission and Parkinson's disease. In 1977, Dr. Silberberg joined the faculty of Simon's Rock College of Bard (Massachusetts), a liberal arts college known for its excellence in teaching small classes of highly motivated students. As Head of the Natural Sciences Major and Director of Premedical Studies, he taught courses in general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and nonmajors chemistry. The close student contact afforded him insights into how students learn chemistry, where they have difficulties, and what strategies can help them succeed. In 1983, Dr. Silberberg decided to apply these insights in a broader context and established a text writing and editing company. Before writing his own text, he worked on chemistry, biochemistry, and physics texts for several major college publishers. He resides with his wife and child in Massachusetts. For relaxation, he cooks, sings, and walks in the woods.

Highly recommended. Works through the problems in blue in the end of chapter exercises (most, but not all odd ones). Its solutions are the same high quality as the text example problems, so they will really help out and won't leave you scratching your head trying to see what they just did there.

This book offers step-by-step instructions on the problems. However, this book is not used as widely in academia anymore because there have been several new versions released. I recommend this book as a good starter for getting acquainted to chemistry but not as a go-to guide every time the problems get tricky.

My take on this is that it can help strike a decent balance between the two, & is a nice beginner's primer on sexting & some of the ways partners respond to it, or a good revisit to the basics.

This is an excellent guide for women who are new to sexting. For example, I always thought that sexting had to be hardcore and what some would consider vulgar. But the author teaches us that short texts that convey a bit of mystery are usually more effective when seeking to arouse a man. I've only tried one tip so far, but am anxious to try some of the others.My only complaint is that I wish this book was longer and included even more sexting examples.

I enjoyed reading this! I most likely could have muffled through, but I like guidence. My husband and I have been married for almost thirty years , I still like to shake things up every once in a while to keep it fresh. This book will definitely help, Thanks Desiree!

The content of this book was very basic and it doesn't have enough in-depth content. This disappointed me as a reader who purchased it with the expectation of learning more on the topic.

The book is easy to read, simple to understand and follow. However, there is not much to it. I expected an in-depth presentation and more examples.

I love this adult coloring book The pictures are big and has a lot of coloring options

I like to color in my personal time and when I feel stressed so I have many different coloring books. However, this one made me excited to purchase and it spoke to me. I can't wait to purchase more, I think I'm going to get a few more for the ladies in my family because we can relate! Cant wait to get more!

This review comes after I have finished the book as well as explored the author's website.The strong points: 1. an emphasis on starting off with correct pronunciation (he says otherwise you end up learning two languages rather than one). He has very good videos on the mechanics of pronunciation available. He also sells trainers for specific languages.2. The use of minimal pairs (two words like cat and cut that differ by only one sound). He has a way of using these to train you to actually hear the differences, which can be very tricky in some foreign languages. You have to hear the differences before you can produced them, but understanding how they are produced gives you a leg up.3. The use of IPA (international phonetic alphabet) to represent the actual sounds.4. The use of pictures to associate with a new word. This is how you get the concept associated with the word you are acquiring. It is also how you avoid translation, which impedes thinking in the language.5. The use of a spaced repetition system (ANKI) to integrate concept, sound, spelling and emotional connection with recall. Tricky issues like gender and grammatical problems are also addressed.6. Frequency lists are discussed and often provided on his site.7. Tremendous amount of info on webs resources to practice conversation (and his website also gives info on picking topics).8. The book is so rich in content that I have probably omitted something significant.OK, nobody is perfect, so what's missing?1. The pronunciation material should help you master individual words. But an equally, if not more, important part of conversation is called prosody and concerns the rhythm and stress applied to a string of words. Even without knowing a word of French and Italian, you could easily distinguish the difference in rhythm in a typical conversation. If you are singing, the prosody is implied by the music. In conversation, you have no such guide. You will pick this up in conversation (slowly) but can speed this up by learning poetry in the foreign language, because typical poetry emphasizes prosody. You almost can't avoid it.2. It's not clear how you can take advantage of sequential activities. These are sometimes called Gouin series. A simple example is: I pick up the book; I open the book; I look at a page in the book; I close the book; I put the book down. We are really good at remembering series (it's how we go through most of our day). Sometimes this is called a schema. If we attach the new words to a schema, it's very reinforcing. Perhaps this can be achieved in an anki system?3. The only truly negative is that much of the material talked about in the book is not yet available on the website. That's hard on the impatient among us!

I required a long and excruciating effort to become fluent in a second language. This book confirms learning principles I discovered the hard way, and suggests some others that I never thought of or are only available recently. It is making my work on a third language much more efficient, and for that I highly recommend it. In fact, I found it more useful in its general advice than in the details, and that is why I am only giving it four stars. It starts out strong, but then seems to collapse under its own earnestness.The author writes in an almost breathless conversational style, full of ironic humour and such energy that it sounds like he is selling something. Turns out he is: the book is a gateway to a commercial website. After giving some truly useful advice about the importance of proper pronunciation, vocabulary, and how best to memorize new material, he starts to go on about flashcards. And on. Their use and various ways to construct a review system take up a large part of the book. I found that and the overwhelming detail about phonetics to become tiresome. I can summarize the most useful part of his flashcard advice in two words: multimedia Google.In my experience, his general tips about exposing yourself to properly spoken language are more useful. For example, watching subtitled TV shows or reading what interests you. You will get the same results without investing the energy in flashcards or pronunciation guides that you would put to better use just immersing yourself in the language. As he recounts in his own story, nothing beats immersive learning. And you probably didn’t use flashcards to learn your first language.I can vouch for the usefulness of what is here, but most of it is in the first half of the book.

Could be useful to absolute beginners.If you have experience in contemporary language techniques, or if you already run an SRS, don't buy.For me, his book misses some very important things in his main premise.One of his biggest positions is surrounding Spaced Repetition Systems. I use SRS extensively, and one of the biggest challenges is adopting native material into cards which prompt speech production and cards which test comprehension. These are two very different skills, and I think they benefit from activities which specifically target each skill separately. While he goes into great details about how to structure cards, this topic is ignored completely.A great deal of this information can be found on the web, amid the self-learning language community. For an absolute beginner, with no time to research learning techniques on the web, this could be a good introduction. It would be especially useful to debunk the approaches used in most language classrooms. HOWEVER, a dedicated learner is going to have to do this research anyway, because the techniques and approaches are as individual as a suit and will affect your learning in profound ways. As such, I would recommend jumping into that research right away, and simply engorging the materials found on HTLAL and it's newer version. Also, read methodology books, the AJATT blog, etc.When I learned Korean, I spent about 40% of my time just researching learning techniques, and then 60% of my time on actual target language material. It paid off in spades, concerning that I am learning Arabic, and can apply 100% of my methodology to the new language.Both of these were tested languages, and I used them for work.

Exactly what I was looking for at a decent price

This book is very helpful

There is good, basic information in this book which will be especially useful to new believers. The maps could have been a bit better (i.e., not all of the places mentioned in the text are shown on their corresponding maps) and sometimes the information was either overly-simplistic or occasionally inaccurate. Overall there is much good information to glean, but is probably a bit dated.

Laney has written a good supplement for better understanding the geography and history mentioned in the Holy Bible.The book contains 16 chapters:1. The Primeval Period (Creation to 2166 BC).2. The Patriarchal Period (2166 to 1876 BC).3. The Egyptian Sojourn (1876 to 1446 BC).4. The Wilderness Wanderings (1446 to 1406 BC).5. The Transjordan Settlement (1406 BC).6. The Conquest of Canaan (1406 to 1375 BC).7. The Period of the Judges (1375 to 1050 BC).8. The United Monarchy (1050 to 931 BC).9. The Divided Monarchy (931 to 722 BC).10. The Solitary Kingdom of Judah (722 to 586 BC).11. The Babylonian Exile (586 to 537 BC).12. The Restoration of Judah (537 to 430 BC).13. Between the Testaments (430 to 5/4 BC).14. I have assigned Laney's CONCISE BIBLE ATLAS for a couple of semesters now as the text for the college class I teach on Bible History and Geography. Other bible atlases contain more appealing maps, but Laney's book shines in its written text. Each of the sixteen chapters describes a period of history, from the primeval period to the present, from the perspective of the biblical record and the lands involved. Geographical features are highlighted for each historical period. I recommend the book for anyone looking for an historical survey of the biblical period and the lands involved. And with only 261 pages, the book is not a lengthy read.

I ordered this book for the Theories and Methods of Counseling course last semester. I was of course dreading the intense reading load that my Professor had in store for us, but I was surprised at how concise and organized this text is. Every chapter is broken down in relatively the same manner, and I loved how it broke down each major theory (such as humanistic, behavioral, psychoanalytic, etc.) into sub-divisions and founders/co-founders. As embarrassing as it is to admit that up until last semester, I kind of BS-ed knowing theories and the people involved with those theories, this text really helped me remember who did what, who founded what, who contributed to this and that. I would definitely recommend this text to anyone who needs a more structured, laid out format when it comes to this kind of material.The book did NOT come with the CD, but I believe on one of the first pages there is a website to go to that has the information to view the CD online. Luckily my professor let it slide when he realized 99% of the class did not get the CD.

Great price - no problems with the book. The only difference between this and my classmates books was mine was in black and white, the color was green instead of that pink-ish color and it was paperback ---- oh - and like 80 bucks cheaper!

I feel that the description noted is misleading.There is information given about the DVD "The Case Of Stan" and I feel that the purchaser of the book is lead to believe that the DVD is included with the book. I feel that the descripion SHOULD CLEARLY STATE DVD IS NOT INCLUDED WITH BOOK, however is available as an ADDITIONAL PURCHASE.I spent close to $60.00 to buy a new book so that I would be assurred to receive the DVD with it. This was a waste of money, because know I know that the DVD is not included and I could have purchased a used book for less than half the price. :(I am suprised that Amazon has not corrected this. This is a problem because as several other reviewers have said that they also thought that the DVD was included as well. BE AWARE THE DVD DOES NOT COME WITH THE BOOK!!!!!

I actually am enjoying this book. The case study of Stan has been so helpful to follow along and see various techniques used. I did find it distracting and irritating for the author to constantly suggest skipping around and reading later chapter's before earlier ones. Seems they should have simply organized it in a way that didnt require skipping around.

i'm studying for a master's in counseling degree. i won't keep all my books, but i will hold on to this one. if you simply MUST have the "case of stan" DVD, then i'm afraid you'll have to look for that package specifically, and purchase it new. my professor stressed we needed to buy dvd. however, you can find a good portion of the stan role plays on youtube. (btw, the new one with dvd is about $195). i didn't want to pay that much, so went with this one. and it has done the job just fine. in the book, at the end of the chapters, there is even a discussion of dr. corey's sessions with stan (a recap of what was on the dvd). i have had no problem. only two weeks remain in the course and i have a high "a" average.

I still have this particular textbook from my program because this one was by far the most helpful. It's broken down into several chapters that are concise, helpful and easy to read. The examples are AMAZING, and in the back of the book, it has a great summary of each theory, that I think really helped me ace my tests.

This book is great. It arrived fast and it is written in a way that it is easy to stay focused and engaged in. The way the author organized this book is brilliant, all in order of 11 different types of theories. I highly recommend this book.

As usual, Cengage have overpriced their mediocre books. To make it worse, as someone has already mentioned, the Kindle editions comes with neither a product key or access code so watching the recommended videos is not possible. In my case, I had no choice but to buy the Kindle edition. I live in the Middle East in a country that is very restrictive of the materials it allows in. Psychology and religion are two of the most banned materials. Rather than take a chance by ordering the print edition hoping it would get past the censors, it's easier to buy the electronic edition which can be downloaded over a VPN connection. Having access to the video and other materials available with the product code and/or access key might have made this experience better.
